SDES Journal

As I mentioned (a few months ago…), we will be featuring some of our OUTSTANDING volunteers.  SDES could not be the organization it is today without the help and dedication of our volunteers.  We truly appreciate all of the time and efforts of everyone who helps us with all of our programs.
To start us off, let me introduce you to Robbie Lewis!  Robbie is a registered dietitian at Saint Vincent’s Health System in Birmingham.  She was introduced to our programs through Junior Camp in 2003 at Camp Seale Harris, where she helped our kids with their diets and meal plans.  Since then, Robbie has volunteered with Camp Sugar Falls in Birmingham and other SDES events in Birmingham.  One of the things that keeps Robbie involved in our program is working with the staff and kids that are associated with SDES.  Recently, Robbie welcomed a new baby girl, Annabelle, to her family.  Thank you, Robbie, for all that you do for our programs and helping us eat healthier!

SDES is now providing many programs for the whole family all over the state!  Make sure you check the schedule and contact the office or register online if you are interested in participating in any of the following programs:

April 5- Family Day at the McWane Center (Birmingham)

April 6- Family Skate Day (Mobile)

April 27- Fishing at Laguna Park (Montgomery)

May 18- Family Day at Monte Sano Park (Huntsville)

What do you have when you combine 18 families, 13 counselors, a doctor, a nurse practioner and a dietician?  SPRING FAMILY WEEKEND!!!  This past weekend was our first family weekend of 2008 and it was great!  We had great weather, yummy food, fun programs and even some education.  Our friends at Camp ASCCA put together some super programs for our kids, while our parents attended education sessions to learn more about diabetes.  The best part of our weekend was definitely making new friends, while laughing with old ones!

 Spring family weekend means that in just TWO months, we will be having summer camp!  Feel free to contact the office with any questions regarding registration or you can now register for our program online!  We hope to see YOU soon!
