Southeastern Diabetes Education Services has been providing children with diabetes many fun-filled educational programs since it was founded in 1947 by Dr. & Mrs. Samuel Eichold. A wide assortment of recreational activities fill every day.
More importantly, intensive diabetes management techniques are taught during daily diabetes education seminars. All activities are designed to encourage a positive approach to living with diabetes!
Dr. Samuel Eichold was born on May 27, 1916, in Mobile, Alabama. He received both undergraduate and medical school degrees from New Orleans’ Tulane University and served a naval tour in Samoa, where he specialized in infectious diseases. In 1973, at the age of 59, Dr. Eichold left his private practice in Mobile and became a charter member of the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, where he remained active until his death in May 2006.
